While the PlayStation 4 -- and PlayStation name in general -- is proving popular with Australian gamers, Microsoft's Xbox One is also performing strongly.
Research conducted by Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (IGEA) found that the Australian video and computer games industry recorded $1.14 billion of ‘traditional retail’ sales in addition to an estimated $899 million of digital sales.
The Xbox One was a strong contributor to those numbers, with gamers reportedly spending more on the console, which launched November 22, than any other in 2013, according to The NPD Group Australia.
“Xbox One saw higher unit sales of consoles, games and accessories than any other next generation console in Australia last year and topped all prior console launches in the country’s history," said Jeremy Hinton, Microsoft Australia Business Group Lead Interactive Entertainment
“Supply of the Xbox One has been limited since Christmas, however we are doing our best to meet demand, especially for Australians looking to join the action with the launch of Titanfall on March 13."
The news out of both Microsoft and Sony prove the games industry is alive and well down under, with a strong market attracted to great products.
