《FAMI通》的编辑实际试玩了《街头霸王IV》的开发中版本，据他们描述，游戏的操作感与《超级街霸II X》有些相似。游戏制作人小野义德则表示，他们希望游戏的最终成品能够同时吸引格斗游戏爱好者和那些曾经痴迷于《街霸II》的老玩家。
