Q and A Comparing the PS3 to other Consoles
Q: How does PLAYSTATION 3 compare to Xbox 360 and Wii?
It doesn't. There will be no other console with this level of hyper reality, intelligent gaming and high-definition visuals.
PLAYSTATION 3 with embedded Blu-ray technology creates the first ever highdefinition gaming experience.
Once you've experienced PLAYSTATION 3, there will be no competition, no going back to the old way, no greater value.
Q: Is PLAYSTATION 3 priced too high for the average consumer/gamer?
Value is as important - if not more important - as price to many people. We want to give customers the most for their money that's why PLAYSTATION 3 ships as a complete system. We aren't asking consumers to sacrifice new media formats or to purchase expensive add-on accessories to experience the next wave of entertainment. Moreover, if you price the Xbox 360 with some of the same features, the Xbox 360 actually costs more.
Q: Microsoft was largely criticized for Xbox 360 shortages at launch, how will Sony ensure they don't have the same problem?
Having enough supply to meet our consumer demand is very important to us; we will make every reasonable effort possible to make sure this will happen. Also, a big advantage that we have over out competitors is that we manage and control manufacturing for our product. We don't have to rely on outside companies or challenges, that's a powerful point of differences.
Q: Will SCEA lead the next generation console battle given that Microsoft will have a one year, 10M unit head start?
We never adjust our business strategies based on competitive movement. If you look at our history, we've launched our platforms ahead of our competitors and we've launched after, either way, we've proven our success time and again.
Q: Did you redesign the controller or remove the rumble because of the Immersion lawsuit?
The new controller is based on the original PlayStation controller design, the defacto standard in controllers with hundreds of millions of units sold worldwide. There is no need for vibration or rumble with the motion sensor capability, especially since it can interfere with the sensors.

The PSP's console-quality game play, along with it's ever-evolving multimedia capabilities - such as watching movies and TiVo recordings, listening to music, and accessing the Internet and RSS feeds - provide consumers with powerful functionality never before seen in a portable device.
Q: Why has the PSP sold so poorly in the first 18 months?
Looking back at the momentum we've achieved so far, we're very pleased with the sales of the PSP system. In the 15 months since launch, we've shipped more than 20 million PSP units worldwide, making it our fastest growing platform ever.
The PSP system has also served as an important driver in retail sales, bringing in more than $1.6 billion as of calender year 2005, more than Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS combined.
Q: How are UMD movie sales progressing?
Unlike the early days of the DVD market when it took nine months for the first DVD movie to top 100,000 units, roughly 10 UMD movies have already sold more than 100,000 units. Our UMD library includes more than 350 freature films, TV programs, and videos, and we're continuing to provide the Hollywood studios with data on the PSP consumer so they can better target their product offering to this new and emerging market.
Q: Nintendo seems to be doing a better job pushing the DS; what is SCEA doing to combat their success?
Since its record-setting launch in MArch 2005, the PSP system has actually outsold all nextgeneration handhelds in North America.
With more than 5 million units sold in North America, we're pleased with the success the PSP has achieved. The next step is to build on that success with our core gaming audience to reach a wider mass market audience, while contunuing to educate both PSP owners and non-owners about everything the device offers, particularly beyond gaming.
