The PlayStation 4 will retail for $399 in America, a hundred bucks cheaper than Microsoft's Xbox One. When Sony's next-gen console launches this November, however, each unit out the door will carry a loss for the company. No worries though, as Sony expects to recoup the loss through sales of games and PlayStation Plus subscriptions. Eurogamer cites "well-placed sources" that Sony will incur a $60 loss per PS4 sold. However, Sony Japan executive Masayasu Ito can't confirm the exact figure. Ito adds that profits are expected to be achieved when factoring in a purchase of PlayStation Plus and at least one launch title, attachments that he says is purchased from a "typical user." Even if somehow a PS4 owner doesn't intend to buy additional items, the PlayStation 4 will be sold at a profit much quicker than it did with the PS3. Sony will manage costs this time around by using components found in PCs, resulting in lower production costs when compared to the PS3. For people here who have pre-ordered a PS4, will you be purchasing a PS+ subscription and games with your console? It's a bit of a silly question, but I'd like to see what other people are grabbing with their systems.
