ＰＳＰ　08年上半期１位獲得
任天堂を凌ぎ、初の第1位
　携帯型ゲーム機市場では、これまで任天堂のニンテンドーＤＳライトが販売台数で首位を走っていた。しかし、2008年上半期にソニー・コンピュタエンタテイメント（以下、ＳＣＥ）の携帯型ゲーム機、プレイステーションポータブル（以下、ＰＳＰ）が約196万台を販売し、ニンテンドーＤＳライトの約159万台を抑えて半期ベースで初めての第1位を獲得した。また、据え置き型の任天堂Wiiの2008年上半期販売台数約172万台も凌ぎ、全てのゲーム機の中で第1位となっている。
　ＰＳＰの販売台数は前年同期比で約2倍近い。これには、株式会社カプコンの「モンスターハンターポータブル 2nd G」というＰＳＰ用アクションゲームが230万本を売り上げる大ヒットとなったことが貢献している。巨大な武器を使いモンスターを倒して、設定されている目標をクリアしていくという内容で、一人で遊べるだけでなく、ＰＳＰ装備の無線通信機能を利用して同時に四人までが一緒にプレイ出来る点が特徴である。同ソフトが販売された2008年3月以降に、ＰＳＰ本体が急速に販売台数を伸ばしていることから、優良なソフトを囲い込めるかでハードの販売が左右されることが改めて確認された形になっている。ニンテンドーＤＳがこれまで市場をリードし、国内販売で2,000万台を超える原動力になったのも「脳トレ」ソフトのヒットがあったからである。
