DriverClub导演Col出来打业内Pete Dodd的脸了:在gaf发了一贴,大概意思是他离开是因为4岁儿子患了严重的肾病,甚至有可能威胁生命。他离公司大概220英里,每周都离家5.5天,儿子这种情况他无法继续在此工作,他离开100%是家庭的原因。
他在公司时DriverClub也从未在制作道路上出现过偏离。
他已经尝试联系Dodd要求其撤销言论并道歉,因为这是诽谤并对当事人造成了伤害。

最后,当然,Pett Dodd在gaf被ban。

Hello, all.

This is my first post on NeoGAF, and whilst I'm not generally one to deal in internet speculation, I have to put the record straight with regard to Pete Dodd's comments above.

Everything he has said with regard to myself and Driveclub is incorrect. It's also libellous.

As Putty (who is a personal friend of mine, and has been for about 25 years) suggests, I left Evo in February for personal reasons. The personal reasons being that my son, who is 4 years old, has been diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, which is a potentially life threatening condition. I live 220 miles (4 hours drive) away from Evolution Studios, and was away from home 5.5 days a week. Given the circumstances, I could not continue to work there.

Driveclub is a great game, and the direction hasn't changed since my departure. This has been confirmed by SONY in various press releases over recent days.

I have no problem in dealing with very large projects, as I've been working in the games industry for the last 19 years, and have worked on some very prestigious titles, so there is genuinely no truth to anything posted by Mr Dodds at all. My departure (and indeed the setup of my 'indie' operation, BigRedSwitch) is 100% driven by family necessity, not some professional failing on my part.

I left SONY on very good terms. There is no animosity there, and I was absolutely nothing to do with the recent redundancies - in fact, the news of those redundancies was probably linked on here before I knew about them.

The games industry is a tough place at the moment. My circumstances with my son mean that I've had to leave secure work in order to try to make my own way in the world. This may entail getting another job. With people who obviously know nothing about the situation blackening my reputation for the sake of internet 'fame', this could be made much more difficult. It's nothing less than trolling.

I've contacted Mr. Dodd on his email address on his site. Due to the factual inaccuracy of his statements, I've informed him that he needs to remove the statements and apologise for the damage they have caused, as posting incorrect information and claiming it's true is quite simply libel.

I'm sure you can all appreciate just how difficult things are for myself and my family at the moment. I'd genuinely appreciate it if you can take my statements as word from the origin, and realise that there has been no big cover-up when it comes to my departure from SONY/Evo.

It’s no mystery that multiple studios within Sony Computer Entertainment have undergone a thinning process lately, with multiple rounds of layoffs, and hiring has slowed down as well, with very few development-related career opportunity ads posted on SCEA’s and SCEE’s website.

Yet, it looks like Sony Computer Entertainment of America is now at the beginning of the upwards phase of the recruiting cycle again, and the company posted two new career opportunity ads seeking a recruiter and a recruiting coordinator.
Within the duties listed there is, of course, “Developing and administering staffing/employment/recruiting programs,” and it’s very interesting for two positions of this kind to be staffed at the same time, probably meaning that Sony either wants to restructure or expand its recruiting department.

Incidentally, industry insider Pete Dodd, that is known to have some quite solid sources at Sony, posted a very insightful piece on NeoGAF explaining what may have happened in the past few weeks at Sony’s WorldWide Studios, mentioning that people are connecting dots that don’t need to be connected. Be warned that the language is a little strong, but the post is meant for a forum, after all:

Stig and his team spent almost 100 million dollars on a game that failed every QA test that took. The game sucked. They shitcanned the game and a lot of the people involved. They offered Stig a spot on barlog’s project – he didn’t want to go from game director to something lesser so he quit.

This makes sense, right? Shitty game, money wasted, people fired, head guy leaves out of ego? I mean that all makes sense.
Amy Hennig has creative differences about the direction that UC4 should go in. Egos swell, she leaves. She’s happy, she will make another studio much better when she gets there. Justin Richmond, an ally of Hennig’s, gets an offer he can’t refuse from Riot. He leaves.

These things happen. Naughty Dog is going to be fine. UC4 will still be awesome. Riot will be better with the pickup of Richmond and whoever gets Hennig will be better off. The sky isn’t falling.

Guerilla Cambridge is working on a vita game that is shit and won’t sell. They slim down as they retool for another project.

Again – this isn’t new. This happens a lot.

The director of Driveclub doesn’t deliver the game on time. Given more time the game still needs work. He is replaced.

Wouldn’t you replace him? Wouldn’t you shitcan stig’s project that cost them almost 100 mil and had nothing of value to show for it? In fact they should have done it two years ago. The fact they let it go this far is a testament to how much they believed in him after GoW 3.
And all of this is happening before the fiscal year ends. Is sony trimming fat? Of course. Sony corporation is not in a great spot. So they are tightening up a bit. But a lot of people are connecting dots that don’t need to be connected. Hennig/Richmond is about creative differences and ego. Stig is about wasted money and time. Col Rogers (driveclub) is about failing to deliver. Taken on their own they all make sense. Combine them together and you get glenn beck with a chalkboard.

And Jack Tretton was about money and inability to move up. He will make more money and have more power somewhere else – something Sony simply could not offer him. Shit happens.

Dodd also offered further clarity on Stig Asmussen’s canceled project at Sony Santa Monica:
I heard various numbers between 75mil and 90 mil for Stig’s game. I said “almost 100″ because, well, both are almost 100 mil. They restarted the game, from scratch, THREE TIMES! And it sucked every time. The whole “it was too much like destiny” thing is bullshit. It was more horror-ish and like Dead Space than Destiny. That whole thing was sony jumping on the grenade to help Stig save face. And help themselves save face as they wasted a fucking TON of money.

They started concept on it before GoW 3 shipped. Once GoW 3 shipped the moved to Darkside. They didn’t have online or DLC or shit like that to worry about. They jumped right into the next project.
The game initially was supposed to be out this year. It’s been clear for a couple years now that wasn’t gonna happen… but it does explain the giant hole in their fall lineup. Thankfully for them… Driveclub will be there to attempt to fill it, a bit.

He also offered more insight on the whole picture:
There are reasons why Sony lost a lot of money during the PS3 years. They are trying not to repeat that.

People losing jobs sucks. I feel for the SSM guys and everyone else. But Sony needs to run a tighter ship if they want to make money. They can’t allow teams to piss around for years with nothing to show. That’s why they completely restructured Japan Studio. Those guys had dozens of games that were going nowhere. It’s why they shuttered Zipper. MAG, while amazing – imo, was an expensive failure. Socom 4 was an expensive failure. They closed them down.

Now they are tightening up on teams that aren’t delivering. It sucks – but it makes sense. The playstation division is in strong state right now. The PS3 is finally making money for them, the PS4 is off to best start in console history, and they are correcting the money-wasting mistakes of the prior generation. I’m not saying we should have a party now – there are clearly hurdles to overcome. Stig’s game being gone created a giant hole in their lineup. The driveclub delay is the cause of enormous worry for many PS4 fans. The timing of these things has tinfoil hats flying everywhere. Sony corporate has very big problems it needs to handle. Shit isn’t all rosy at sony – i’m not trying to say that. But it’s not doom and gloom either. These are all separate events that happened for very logical reasons when you look at them individually.

Another industry insider, Ahsan Rasheed, also added his take on what’s happening at SCEE on Twitter.
What I can say is- Europe is having a reset button pushed and the entire spectrum from top to bottom is being reshuffled for efficiency.

The London Studio is known mostly for Singstar and various casual things, so I imagine things aren’t too surprising on that front.

On the other hand, NeoGAF user DemonNite, who is known to work at Sony, also mentioned that he isn’t worried.
Things change indeed. I’m not worried either and see things from the inside.

While we should always take what is said by insiders with the proverbial grain of salt, the job opportunities posted today offer further solidity to Dodd’s post, as it’s quite evident that Sony Computer Entertainment is simply taking part in the natural cycle of layoffs and hiring.
It’s always disheartening to see people leave or lose their jobs, but as Dodd says “people move around,” and it happens in every industry. Other industries simply don’t have hungry press hounding companies in order to create stories that often are made bigger than what they are.

另外还有一些大概意思是sony在ps3时期浪费了太多钱去应付不利局面,所以ps4时期开始把一些效率不高的团队或个人进行解决。

关于“业内”,怎么说呢,gaf有个机制比较好,只要你po的“传言”被证实是不对的,马上就ban你没商量,所以gaf的传言一般都比较准的,所以这也是为什么各大游戏网媒,ign也好,gamespot也好,eurogame也好,还是dualshockers也好,经常会把gaf的“业内”当新闻发,而且很多名制作人比如战争机器之父Cliff,在gaf都有账号的,不过他一些言论在gaf不怎么受待见,经常被gafer喷,这是另外一回事。
之前一直命中率超高的“业内”Cboat最近被ban了,为啥?他信誓旦旦的多次说titanfall的最终零售版的分辨率是720p,就因为这条,他被账号被停用了。哪怕他之前确实给我们带来很多真实的内部消息,但是po了一次不正确的“传言”一样被ban。
这个贴本身就是个游戏业的八卦新闻,看看娱乐就好,至于是不是真的,跟看客真没多少关系

第一,Amazon是否想做主机(现在可以确认Amazon要出游戏机了),微软是否想过卖xbox,两家是否就此事讨论过可能性,这真的除了业内谁也不会知道,而且只要没谈成你就永远不会知道,你不能说他错,你也不能说他对。
第二,Pete还是比较珍惜自己的账号的,所以他只是推特上发,没在gaf发:D,gaf的帖子是别人转他的,然后各大媒体转,我想无风不起浪,外媒都在转肯定也有其它source有相近说法才会发
第三,请你把这些包括本帖当八卦看,别认真好伐。有人爆料是好事,既然是爆料,肯定会有对有错,你也没有那个能力去辨真伪,怎么办?还是那句话,当八卦看,信不信都可以。
第四,我以前发Cboat关于xbox one传言,你一样表示过他不可信,所以你预设立场去选择是否相信根本就无解,所以我也不想和你纠结,好吧?

说点花边,Pete Dodd其实一直算不上insider,他是靠当初在网络上发起以GAF为起点然后在推特,脸书上发酵的NO DRM运动而一炮打响,sony和微软准备搞得DRM和二手策略可以说是被这个人带头弄垮了,在此之前他在gaf也是nobody,因为这个事件,他获得了一些名声使得他可以有机会接触业内人士,交了很多业内朋友。为了讨好玩家,scea的Adam Boyes都和他交流沟通过。
在那之后,Dodd开始经常在自己经营的网站,推特和GAF爆料,他也不算什么脑补,他的爆料只是从他的业内朋友那获得的二手消息。Col的事只能说他的业内朋友也不靠谱,他在推特上道歉承认了这点,也直接向Col本人道歉了,当然他也付出了代价,积累的人气也毁于一旦。
