Major Nelson admits Kinect could lead to virtual sex applications


Is Kinect the beginning of the future of virtual sex? Larry Hryb AKA Major Nelson, the Director of Programming for Xbox Live, was recently involved in a comical debate about the future of gaming. It led to him to concede that he could certainly see where there would be some virtual sex applications using a Kinect style system in the future.




It was the Founder and president of Mass Animations (who was also instrumental instrumental in launching Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Digital), Yair Landau, who lowered the tone when asked what the future of gaming is. "I really hope that Project Natal leads to huge quantum improvement in virtual sex." he said.

Eventually, this led to Larry being asked if he envisioned the future of gaming to be millions of people getting it on. Larry said that it would help sell more XBOXs and that he could certainly see where there could be some applications there in the future.

HOST: Is the future of gaming violent, what is the future of gaming?

YAIR: Better sex, better drugs, more rock and roll, and more visceral violence.
I really hope that Project Natal leads to huge quantum improvement in virtual sex. I think that once you've got real motion capture data. You can really integrate stuff that doesn't exist in gaming today. I think the Wii controller is really limited and i really want it to go a whole lot farther in all this areas.

HOST: The Wii controller is the right shape.

YAIR: But you want to use the rest of your body and you want it to be as real as possible. I think that one of the most dominate genres of gameplay is letting you act out fantasies you cant do in real life.

HOST: And you think that the future is going to have more than that?

YAIR: I think that Grand Theft Auto.....why should you be watching the download of somebody getting it on when that can be up in the level your on.

HOST: Is this the future you had envisioned Larry? Millions of people getting it on?

Larry: Well its certainly a way to sell more Xboxs, we can put one in the bed room. But we are trying to get the basic technology down fi...[first]

YAIR: What only in in the bedroom? Are you one of those guys who turns the lights off? Come on!

LARRY: Well you know, its an easy comparison to go, hey its going to recognize full body motion, well it certainly needs to recognize dual body motion, as it were. umm and...

Yair: Now you're talking

Larry: I can certainly see where there could be some applications there in the future.
