Marseille midfielder Franck Ribery admits he endured a difficult time in the summer as his name was constantly linked with a move.

The talented France international saw his stock rise at the World Cup when after an impressive showing in Germany the likes of Lyon, Real Madrid and Arsenal all expressed an interest.

At one stage in what was one of Europe's more protracted transfer races, Ribery seemed highly likely to make the move to French champions Lyon.

However, with Marseille loath to lose their prize asset, Ribery was eventually persuaded to extend his stay at Stade Velodrome.

"It is true after the World Cup, being an international, I wanted to play Champions League," Ribery told L'Equipe.

"Indeed Mr Aulas (Lyon's chairman) did his best for me to join Lyon, but honestly it was not the only club that wanted me to play Champions League.

"Real, Arsenal, there were a lot of clubs attracted.

"Now it is up to me to achieve the same season as last year, and then we will see at the end of the year.

"Those propositions have disturbed me.

"I am only 23-years-old and even if you play for one of the biggest French clubs, when you hear all those big teams following you, you are hesitant.

"At a certain time, I was lost. I didn’t know where to go anymore, considering everything that was happening and being said around me. I endured that period, those difficult moments.

"But you have to know I am someone simple, I am not big headed. I am working everyday in training sessions. I have not changed."

Although conceding that he was greatly unsettled by all the talk of a possible exit, Ribery is now willing to give his all for Marseille in the present campaign.

"I will stay at Marseille all season long," he added.

"Talking with the officials they told me one or two new players will come, we have an ambitious group.

"I have no regret to stay here, because I deeply love the club and the people.

"They have adopted me and my family loves the region. I have learnt a lot, and I hope to have had a good lesson.

"I will be more cautious in the future with what I am saying, that is for sure."
