Toyota has uncovered the Yaris Hybrid R concept - a city runabout with a sportscar power output of 300kW.
The three-door Yaris concept car is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine teamed to a pair of electric motors. Power is expected to be sent to all four wheels.A release from the company states the car will bring “Toyota Hybrid System-Racing technology to the road (and track)”.
The drivetrain’s electric motors are charged by a pair of power-boosting super-capacitors which capture energy lost through braking, as seen in Toyota’s TS030 Hybrid Le Mans racing car.
The Hybrid R drivetrain is expected to be used in a future sportscar application, possibly in the next-generation successor to the Toyota Supra.
The Yaris Hybrid R concept will debut at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show in September.
