....It's been a rocky year for the creator of the Wii console and Super Mario franchise. The Kyoto-based company has been hit with waning consumer demand for its hardware as well as a strong yen, which shrinks the value of overseas profits. Last fall, Nintendo slashed its earnings forecasts after announcing that its new 3DS game machine wouldn't be ready for the holiday shopping season. It then reported a first-half loss — its first since 2003.....
....Wii sales tumbled 38 percent during the month, and sales of the DS handheld system declined 24 percent.....
....For the fiscal year ending March 2011, Nintendo is forecasting sales to fall more than 20 percent year-on-year to 1.1 trillion yen ($13.4 billion) and expects net profit of 90 billion yen ($1.1 billion). That would represent a 61 percent plunge in profit from the previous year. By unit, it predicts it will sell 23.5 million DS devices and 17.5 million Wii consoles, both double-digit declines from the previous year....
