今天是 June 17 2008 Firefox 3.0 正式 release 的下载日，由于写这篇文章的时候是中国的 June 17 美国时差关系还是 16 号.

简单介绍下就是 在 90年初 互联网发展的初期，NCSA（National Center for Supercomputing Applications，美国国家超级电脑应用中心）研发了一款叫 Mosaic(马赛克) 的浏览器，并将其买给了包括微软在内的其他商业公司。微软的 IE 就是基于 NCSA 的这款浏览器演变过来的。 当时 马赛克 浏览器 可以运行在 苹果 Macintosh 操作系统 和 微软 windows 下. 是一款商业软件。
后来 马赛克 浏览器的2位核心程序员 为了打破自己做的 马赛克浏览器的垄断地位（他们在 book of mozilla 中将自己研发的马赛克浏览器和其派生品叫做 异教徒 unbelievers），决定再作一个更好的浏览器. 于是成立了一个叫 Netscape 的公司，研发一个能和 马赛克 竞争的浏览器。 叫做 Netscape navigator (95-97 年流行) (他的研发代号叫做 Mozilla). 他们确实做到了 我想如果你是从 95 -97 年开始上网的老网虫肯定用过 netscape. 后来 微软开始将自己的 IE 绑如自己的 windows 操作系统，"免费"提供使用，这个时候 netscape 就开始没落了。很少人愿意在已经有了一个 IE 的情况下再去装一个其他的功能一样的软件.
最后 netscape 公司被收购， 但是原来的研发人员并没有放弃 Mozilla 计划所以成立了现在的mozilla 基金会. 继续和自己创造的恶魔 马赛克 浏览器的后代作战，开始研发 Firefox 浏览器 和 thunderbird Email 客户端
