According to an interview in French magazine Tele Star, former Prison Break star Sarah Wayne Callies, aka Dr. Sara Tancredi, was forced to quit the show. Here is a rough translation of the interview (if the magazine is credible):
根据法国一本杂志上的采访，Sarah被迫离开pb了

Big surprise on Prison Break. We hear that you’re leaving the show in the third season. Yes, but I didn’t have the choice. I’m sad, but it’s just show business.

You weren’t expecting this? No, at the end of season 2 last year. I was sure I’d continue. It’s such a great adventure we achieved.
本来在第二季的时候，她以为自己会继续第三季，谁料……

How did you know you were fired? I don’t want to speculate too much about this. I was shocked.

Your leaving the show was a big deal. You have to tell us more! I’ll just say this. I am sorry to let down the viewers. I have loved the support Sara Tancredi got from them. and though she was a victim of her own destiny, I liked how she made decisions by herself. But the way things ended up couldn’t have been foreseen. Again, I was deceived by the decision.

How did your fellow actors react? They told me ‘It’s too bad. I loved working with you and good luck, we hope we can work together again.’

And Wentworth [Miller]? We were so sad that we wouldn’t work together anymore. Wentworth is a gentleman. He’s gracious and full of class. And i learned a lot from him. But in a series like “Prison Break,” apart from Wentworth, anyone can go. When I took the role of Sara, I thought it’d be for only a year. Afterwards, I was so happy to get a second year.
说是像pb这种剧，除了屎高飞谁都可能走。她很高兴待到两季。

If they call you back, will you accept? Of course! I don’t have another role right now. Right now, I need to find work.

How will Sara make her exit from the series? I don’t know. I’m not part of the team anymore and don’t have any influence on the storyline.

How is being a mom to baby Keala? It’s a rich experience and unpredictable. You can’t plan anything. (Keala was born in July 2007.)

What projects do you currently have today? I’ll rest another month in Vancouver (Canada). Afterwards, I’ll go to California for a little bit. After that, I’d like to do theater in New York. I honed my skills on the stage and I miss it.

EPISODE 304: Good Fences
Airdate: 10/08/2007
As Michael starts to hatch an escape scheme, Whistler warns him that if he doesn't give up the book, he'll tell the Company that Linc has it. Michael is unfazed. He asks to borrow McGrady's cross necklace, but McGrady demands to know why.

Linc, still freaked by the bloody box, visits Michael, who asks Linc to make friends with the prison gravedigger. We see in flashback what was in the box: Sara's severed head.

Michael cuts the power in the prison, then visits a trembling Mahone, going through withdrawal, to enlist him in his escape plan. He asks for a black felt tip pen. Bellick's watching. Mahone begins to hallucinate that Haywire is there, warning him against trusting Michael.

A man tries to escape; Lechero catches him and cuts his Achilles tendons in front of the other prisoners. Meanwhile, Sofia visits Whistler and insists on helping. Whistler asks her to dig into the Scofield brothers' pasts. And Linc meets with Susan, who demands Linc give her the real book.
When Sucre refuses to help, Linc enlists Sofia as a translator so he can make friends with the prison gravedigger. The gravedigger recognizes Sofia from the prison gates. Okay, they're going to have to try honesty.

Lechero, knowing Michael is an engineer, goes to him to see if he can help get the electricity back on. If Lechero's cell phone dies, he can't get any food into Sona and they'll all die. Michael says the electricity can only be repaired from No Man's Land, the area between the inner and outer gates of the prison, where any escaping prisoner is shot dead by tower guards. If he's going to trust that Lechero can protect him from the guards, he'll do it – but only in exchange for a specific corner cell – the first to get sunlight in the morning, he says. Bellick horns in, offering to help dig, and letting Michael know he overheard his conversations with Mahone. On the dig, Michael won't include Bellick in his plans. So Bellick goes to Lechero and tells him Michael's planning an escape, and that he saw Michael bury something in a junction box in No Man's Land. Lechero goes to Michael and demands to see what he buried. It's duct tape – to fix the frayed wires, says Michael. Time to turn the power back on; Lechero insists on coming along with Michael. They arrive in the main power room. There is a fusebox, where Michael has jammed McGrady's cross – this is what's really been keeping the electricity off. The main power switch won't work while the cross is there, and Michael can't get the cross without Lechero seeing. So Lechero picks a fight with Sammy, during which he is able to surreptitiously remove the cross. The power comes back on. Lechero, though suspicious, is satisfied for now.

T-Bag kills Nieves, Lechero's man for smuggling drugs and money into the prison, and makes it look like an overdose. Lechero already suspected Nieves of thievery; this just confirms it. T-Bag takes Nieves' place in Lechero's organization.

Linc arranges to meet Susan and get $15,000 from her. Sofia insists on coming along; Linc refuses to let her. And he tells Sucre to get lost already if he's just gonna run off.

Mahone brings Michael a felt tip pen. Whistler doesn't understand why Michael repaired the electricity – now the electric fence, which hadn't been working in the first place – is back online. Michael says they'll escape by making the fence as deadly as possible.

Susan and Linc meet with the gravedigger; the money is to bribe him. He asks for more money; Susan shoots him dead.

The hallucinatory Haywire begins to urge Mahone to kill Michael. T-Bag brings Mahone some drugs, and he takes them to steady his shakes. He visits Michael in his new cell – which overlooks the electric fence – bringing him the black felt tip pen, which he'd left behind in his old cell. Now why would Michael do that? Full of new confidence and self-control, Mahone says he'll kill Michael if he's not included in the escape attempt.

Linc, still hiding that Sara's dead, tells Michael that the gravedigger's been killed – but Sucre is now the gravedigger. He couldn't abandon his friends after all.

Susan sends the bird book back to Whistler, who then visits Michael to find out the details of the escape plan. They watch Sucre bury Nieves. Every body is sprayed with Kesslivol, a chemical that kills the odor of decomposition. And when heated to a certain degree – as it can be by, say, Sucre surreptitiously spraying it on an electric fence – it can corrode steel.

说白了还是劳资双方的矛盾没得调和，说不定什么时候协商又有了结果就又会出现新的阴谋论了。本来从S2抻到S3就已经是为了商业利益鼓捣的败笔，到了第3季又因为同样的原因搞这样的事情，相当一部分人是没办法接受的。今后的PB无非是2个可能：史高飞在知道“真相”之后IQ再次爆发，以别人无法想象得到的方式将公司彻底摧毁；或者Sara在演员与FOX谈判取得结果之后又冒出来。如果是后者的话，第四季肯定跑不掉了。

《越狱》的编剧Nick Santora在最近更新的个人blog里是这么说的：

I loved tonight's ep - not because I wrote it becauase, frankly, so much goes into make an ep that the writing is just one part of it.
我很喜欢这一集，不是因为是我写的，直率地说，拍一集片子需要多方面的工作，写作只是其中的一部分。

I just think the whole team put together a great ep.
我认为所有的工作人员一起制作了出色的一集。

As for Sara, I know some of you are sad to see a beloved character go, but truth is, the writer/producers had no say in the matter.
至于Sara，我知道你们中有一些人会因为看到自己喜欢的角色离开而感到悲伤，但是事实是，这不是编剧和制片人员说了算的。

Despite Melvel's misinformed comments, the writer/producers have NOTHING to do with negotiations with actors.

The studio and SWC couldn't come to an agreement - plain and simple. It isn't the studio's fault and it isn't SWC's fault.

The writer/producers were eventually told ... "The actress that play Dr. Tancredi isn't coming back ... make it work." And we did.

And in response to someone's comments that the writers shouldn't just write what they want, I say you couldn't be more wrong.
对于那些认为编剧没有写出使自己顺心如意的剧情的人发表的评论，我只能说，你们是大错特错的。

An artist has to be true to their vision ... we write what we want ... we get note from our collaborators (studio and network), we make changes due to budget and scheduling restraints, but at the end of the day, we write what gets us excited.
一个演员必须照着他们看到的（剧本）演……我们写的是我们需要的东西……我们从合作者（工作室与电视台）那里得到指示，我们会根据预算和时间表的限制做出改动，但是在最后，我们会写出令自己兴奋的东西。

If killing characters is what we feel is best in a given situation, we're gonna kill the shit out of 'em.

We're gonna stab 'em and shoot 'em and cut their heads off. If people don't like it and turn the show off, we have to deal with the consequences.

But we all loved the Sara character and we are going to give her the respect she deserved because her memory will not be forgotten and her death will NOT GO UNAVENGED!!! (hint hint: WATCH EPISODE 6).

TANCREDI GOT THE AXE.
Yes, Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) was decapitated and her head stuffed in a box. So what really happened to SWC? TVGuide interviewed Prison Break executive producer Matt Olmstead to get to the bottom of things:
What was your understanding as to why she didn’t want to come back? It seems strange that she refused to return in any capacity. Doesn’t it seem strange to you? It looked like a pretty good deal on the face of it. We definitely came up in money. Thirteen episodes would have allowed the character to have a proper exit. We were willing to push the start date back [to accommodate her maternity leave], which would have meant her coming in [around] Episode 10, but that wasn’t accepted. So then we offered to come up [to Canada] before she gave birth and film at her house. Pretty good money and she wouldn’t even have to leave her house. That wasn’t accepted. So it was a little curious to me and to others why she was taking such a hard stance. [Maybe] she felt that she was made certain assurances about being part of the show this season. And in fairness to her, those assurances were given, because she was such a valuable member of the show…. Also, she’s up [in Canada]. She’s comfortable. She’s starting a family. Maybe she didn’t want to have to fly down and have to do this stuff. Or maybe she felt like she wanted to be part of the show [full time], not just half the season. Perhaps she felt a little jilted. Our [original] plan was to definitely keep her for [all of] Season 3, but after a couple of times of getting it kicked back from the network, we had to come up with a new idea and that necessitated her character being killed.

I had a wonderful time working with the creative team and have a world of respect for all of them; they took great care of Dr. Sara. I’m also enormously grateful to the fans. They’ve been so gracious and supportive, and I hope they continue to enjoy the show.”
