September 01, 2007 - Mark Pacini Director of the Metroid Prime series claims that Retro Studios will be easing off Samus and the Metroid franchise for now. Pacini stated: "I'm sure that there will be other titles created, but as far as Retro Studios is concerned, we're taking a break for a little bit".
Pacini also explained that Retro Studios at first was unaware of the Wii’s new technology and the potential it would hold within its unique control system. Retro Studios was well under way with the development of Prime 3 when Nintendo revealed the innovative control style to them. Retro were rather surprised by this shock announcement and from there on the Wii remote allowed Metroid to be recreated in a way which had never been done before. Whilst numerous amounts of the game had to be restructured, ultimately everything worked out fine.
No doubt Retro will only get better throughout the Wii’s lifetime and it will be interesting to see where they go from here, perhaps there is even the possibility of them releasing a new IP in the near future.
