Arsenal has had 16 year old forward Rui Fonte under scouting for some time and he's been observed in Portugal by Arsenal's scouts Bob Harbol and Lian Brady who are responsible for the London Club's U-21s.
Arsene Wenger was pleased with the data collected on the youngster and gave the green light to the signing of the player that recently became National Champion in the Juvenile Division and has a "developmental contract" untill 2009.
Artur Fonte (the father of both Rui and José Fonte) has admited to the deal and laments that Sporting is putting up obstacles.
