The dawn was especially cruel that morning. Briony awoke with the realization that she had not been having some horrible dream. Ambushed, she'd seen Gorion cut down before her eyes, and even his powerful magic could not stop the onslaught. It was his wish she flee, but that did nothing to stop the powerful feeling of utter helplessness that overwhelmed her. "Hand over your wards,"the armored fiend had said. He was after her and Mistran, but why? If only Gorion had given some clue, some hint, but now she was alone and lost. Candlekeep was near, but she knew she'd find no entry there. The readers pay for their serenity with rather draconian entry rules, and without Gorion's influence, the same doors that protected her all her life would remain closed to her now. Briony's eyes peeled open to the painful light, realizing she was laying on the ground. Pressing her hands to the dirt she found herself too weak to lift herself off the ground with the armor still on her; she collapsed back to the dirt as voices rose around her. I won't last long on my own with this equipment. I need help.. maybe those friends ..father.. mentioned, the ones at the.. Friendly Arm Inn, was it? Her thoughts focused themselves, and she blinked away the light.
